A common thing among the media and those against Senator Sanders is that he is a socialist and therefore he should not be taken seriously. However, Bernie Sanders is not a socialist but rather a democratic socialist. A democratic socialist is defined as the following.

1. Democratic socialism is a political ideology advocating a democratic political system alongside a socialist economic system, involving a combination of political democracy with social ownership of the means of production.

Now that is a major difference from a socialist which focuses less on the individual aspect and instead more on the global situation. In other words, you can think of it as pure socialism without the American individuality.



Democratic Socialism is not a bad thing it can be thought of as an economy where some services are controlled by the government, for instance, a single-payer health care system. However, there is still individual business' for instance, Microsoft will not be government owned and you can still control and setup your own business. The capitalistic spirit will still work and still be there. Stop showing Bernie as a socialist and an anti-capitalistic campaigner when its quite the opposite.
